🎥 Getting Comfortable On Video 🎥
As we all continue to work in a virtual environment, there's no denying the growing importance of video. As of 2019, four out of every five minutes spent online are spent watching video. This is a playground you can no longer afford to ignore. That being said, it can be intimidating! Talking to your phone can be uncomfortable, so check out some tips below on how to get more comfortable on video.
Have someone behind the camera!
This is one of the best ways to make you feel more at ease - whether it's a spouse, a kid, a roommate, whomever! Having someone behind the camera to talk to can make you feel a lot less anxious. Have them sit directly behind the camera, slightly to the side. This will allow you to look at them without looking too far off camera. Talking to a person instead of a lens is a huge first step.
Set your camera up so you can use your hands.
Whether you have a tripod or not, freeing your hands is huge! Get creative - stack some books, find a tall chair, maybe even lean it against a bottle of wine. 🍷 Being able to "talk with your hands" will make you feel and look more natural.
Don't script your video, but prepare bullet points.
It is very obvious to your audience if you're using a script, whether you're reading it in front of you or have something memorized. Instead, write down some bullet points. 2-4 lines total that helps you stay on track. It's okay to glance down occasionally. Plus, this allows you to speak from the heart - you don't have to be perfect, you just have to be you.
Talk about something you're passionate about!
Whatever your topic is, whether it's a new listing, market information, or just some quick tips, make sure you're energetic! That looks different to different people (passionate, excited, heartfelt, etc.), but the point is to make sure people can tell you care. Your emotions and energy are transferred through that lens!
You're your own worst critic - SO GET OVER IT!
We know our insecurities better than anyone else. We all have something we're worried about. Sometimes we don't like the way we look or sound. Well guess what? THAT'S THE WAY WE LOOK AND SOUND! And your sphere LOVES you! No one notices what we notice, so we can't let these things paralyze us. Just get out there and shoot that video!
