Three Quick Tips for AWESOME Video Lighting
Today, we want to talk more about the King - not Elvis, but VIDEO! As we all dive deeper into shooting videos, we wanted to share three quick tips for LIGHTING your videos. Although you can shoot AWESOME HD video with your smartphone, the majority of that quality comes down to how well-lit you are. Check out our three tips below on maximizing your lighting, and therefore, your video quality.
BRIGHTEN UP YOUR SPACE
This one's the easiest - make your space as BRIGHT as possible! Open all the windows, turn on all the lights. Especially in a larger open space, like a kitchen or living room, all this light mingling together gives your video a very natural and bright look. Additionally, nothing gets washed out; everything is relatively evenly lit.
DON'T SHOOT IN FRONT OF A WINDOW
Just because your windows should be open doesn't mean you should shoot right in front of them! When you shoot a video with a window as your backdrop, one of two things happen: Either YOU become really dark and we can see out the window clearly, or the window gets washed out into a white light and creates a poor backdrop. Instead of shooting in front of a window, shoot somewhere with a nice, plain backdrop.
INVEST IN LIGHTING
Want to bump your videos up a notch? Look for some at-home lighting options! Although not necessary for shooting video, they can help improve the lighting in small spaces, like offices. We've done some research to find a couple of affordable options for home lighting. These are just from researching and reading reviews - we do not have any affiliation with these products!
